Having the opportunity to visit a site helps to experience it in different aspects and how the different variables involved had defined the site as it is now. Having the opportunity to visit Owens Lake was a learning experience. It is really shocking for me to find out places like this in a country like the US where many people, even the government, are involved in protecting natural places.
