Traveling to the Owens Valley from Pomona we had quite a long, but beautiful drive. To break up the trip we stopped at Fossil Falls State Park which is just south of the Owens Valley off of highway 395. Fossil Falls was a beautiful landscape feature formed by an ancient waterfall and river which flowed for thousands of year over volcanic rock. At one point, the Owens Lake flowed southward all the way to this site and now what remains is a very interesting polished volcanic rock.
Fossil Falls was a a great introduction to the land and topography of the Eastern Sierra as we approached the Owens Valley.
