Gauging Gusts

Capturing abstract notions of sound and wind in 2-D form was the starting point in developing a drawing machine. Constraints involved in the first phase of the project dealt with using movements of an arm for a set amount of time. Elimination of hand and eye coordination was the overall purpose of the gauging gusts drawing machine. By allowing free flowing and loose movements that are dictated by wind patterns, drawings are organic in nature and allow for a layered look as time beings to accumulate. Drawings are allowed to come into existence with the use of ink filled threads that splatter and mark two different drawing surfaces. Creating a set of drawings allows for two types of drawings to be captured. One captures instances of time as the ink hits the page, while the other marks the direction of the wind and its frequency.
